 Poon Hill Entrance Gate

The Poon Hill Entrance Gate, officially named “Founder of Poonhill Late Major Tek Bahadur Buduja Pun Memorial Gate – 2012,” marks the starting point for the final ascent to the famous Poon Hill viewpoint in the Annapurna region of Nepal.

Located in Ghorepani village, this gate is both a welcoming landmark and a checkpoint where visitors are required to purchase an entrance ticket, currently priced at Nepali Currency Rupees 150 per person. The gate honors Major Tek Bahadur Buduja Pun, recognized for his role in promoting Poon Hill as a popular trekking destination. Beyond the gate, a stone-paved stairway winds uphill through rhododendron forests, leading trekkers to the 3,210-meter-high viewpoint renowned for panoramic Himalayan sunrise views, including Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Trekkers must also carry the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and TIMS card, obtained in Pokhara or Kathmandu, before reaching Ghorepani. The entrance gate is usually busiest early in the morning between 4 to 5 AM when trekkers begin their sunrise hike. Its simple yet meaningful structure symbolizes both community management and the local effort to maintain the trekking route’s beauty and accessibility.
